How do I structure my course? Content | create & edit course materials

    Post and organize course content so that class notes, supplementary resources, and activities are clearly displayed to learners. This tutorial shows how to navigate Lessons in Brightspace Learning Environment.

CONTENT:
- adding a unit -adding a subunit -upload a topic -rearrange topics -add a release condition

Familiarize yourself with the CONTENTS PAGE and ADD a NEW LESSON
  1. Log in to CELO+ Brightspace learning Environment (www.cdu.brightspace.com)
  2. Click the "course selector" icon found on the top right area of the screen.
  3. Select the course you want to add content. For the purpose tutorial, click "[username] Sandbox".
  4. You should be in your course homepage. click "CONTENT" on the navbar.
  5. Watch the video to know more about the content layout:
  6. When you have finished watching the video, you will observed that the video tutorial skipped the "+ New Unit", we will do that in the next steps. You will see 3 buttons on the top left side of the content page. a. Standards - which was explained in the video b. +New Unit - lets you add new course materials c. Gear icon (settings) -  which was explained in the video
  7. Click "+ New Unit" to add a new course materials.             
  8. Type the title of the lesson, in "new unit"(Red Box). Type your brief description of your lesson in the editor below (Yellow box) - You can apply what you have learned in the EDITOR TUTORIAL when ever you see the Brightspace Editor. Once you are done, click "save" (Green box). 
  9.             
  10. You will now be able to see the new lesson you created in the content page. This is now called a "Unit". In my case, my "unit title" is named as "Overview"(red box) and the description i typed, has been seen in the viewing panel (yellow box). Every time you click a unit, the description will always show in the viewing panel. 
  11. Please practice and add three more units (a total of 4 units all in all or more). In the image below, i have already created 4 units, namely: Overview, Brightspace tutorials, Level 1 and Level 2.
CONGRATULATIONS! You have now created lessons for your course.

Creating Sub-units.
    Think about units as a drawer for your files. When you open the drawer you will see alot of folders. We can also do the same in Brightspace by creating sub-units. Watch this video tutorial for a recap on making a Unit and learning how to create a Sub-unit.


RECAP of the VIDEO:
  1. Click on the unit you want a to place a sub-unit on.
  2. Click "Create New"
  3. Click "New Lesson"
  4. Type the title of your subunit folder under "new lesson:. Type the description and then click save.
  5. You should now be able to see the Sub-unit that you created in the table of contents panel (left side). 
Whats inside the "CREATE NEW" Button?
  1.     When adding a new unit/sub-unit, you will see three buttons on the top right corner. You can "Add existing" content, "Create new" content or " triple dot/more options".
    • "Add Existing" Let's you add lessons, quizzes, assignments, or virtual classrooms that you have already made.
    • Create New simply means to create new lessons, quizzes, assignments, discussions, etc.
    • Triple dot will let you access more options like editing, view release conditions (see this tutorial further to know more about it), reorder and delete. 
  2. Click Create New Button. You will be able to see alot of options that you can create. You may choose among the following: 
    • New lesson - which will let you make new sub-units
    • HTML Document - You will be lead to the Brightspace Editor (learn more about it in a separate tutorial). This is usually used to create new lessons.
    • WebLink - let's you add links from other websites like youtube, osmosis, lecturio or other contents from google drive folder or other educational websites you need your learners to view.
    • Assignment - You can create assignments for your learners (you can learn more about it in a seprate tutorials)
    • Discussion - You can open a forum for your students, you may create a topic for students to talk about.
    • Quiz - You can create quizzes for your learners (you can learn more about it in aseprate tutorials). 
    • Checklist - You will be able to create a list that students can check themselves if they have done it/acquired it. For example, PDR materials: Stethoscope, BP apparatus, Flashlight etc. 


Rearrange Units, Lessons, Folders and Materials

    Build on or restructure your course offering, at any time, by quickly rearranging items in Lessons. This tutorial shows you how to reorder materials, move a material between lessons, and move an entire unit in Brightspace Learning Environment.




Attach a Release Condition

    Influence how learners move through your course content by withholding it from them until they satisfy a release condition. This tutorial shows how to attach a release condition to a material in Lessons in Brightspace Learning Environment.
