Use Quizzes to make tests: you can create both formative and summative assessments and set them to be evaluated automatically.
- Navigate to QUIZZES in the navbar of your course. You will land on the quiz homepage.
- Click New Quiz.
- Fill in a title for your quiz.
- Click Add Category if you want to create a category under which you can categorize this quiz. (for example: Quizzes Semester 1). Fill in a title and click Save. On the quiz homepage you have the option to sort quizzes by Availability or Category.
- Click Add/Edit Questions to add new questions.
- Fill in a description/introduction and header/footer if you want to.
- Click Expand description/introduction and/or Expand page header/footer if the text boxes are not visible.
- Fill in your text in the html-editor.
- (Optional) Click Expand optional advanced properties and:
- Indicate whether you want hints to be allowed by ticking the box (hints are created per question, but they have to be enabled here. This is useful when you are importing questions that (could) have hints attached to them).
- Indicate whether you want to disable the right mouse button: this prevents students from being able to print out the quiz questions.
- Indicate whether you want the e-mail and instant messaging functionalities of Brightspace to be turned off when students are participating in a quiz.
- Under Notification Email fill in an email address if you want to receive notifications of completed quiz attempts (separate multiple addresses with a comma).
- Click Save and Close to return to the quiz homepage.
ADDING QUESTIONS:
- on your newly made quiz, click Add/Edit Questions to add new questions.
- You will meet two available options:
- "ADD" - clicking add will let you make new questions, create sections and adding questions from your "question pool".
- New question - allows you to choose what type of question you want this item to be (multiple choice, true or flase, matching type, enumeration, etc.)
- Sections - will let you organize your questions to if you want to use different questions types.
- Question pool - allows you to use old questions you previously made and add certain items to this quiz. It functions like a quiz library.
- "Import" - clicking import will let you import quizzes from your computer using a CSV file. This is optional as this is a much more complicated way of adding questions to Brightspace, but its good for bulk questions like 50 or more items. (If you are interested to learn more about importing questions, click the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgRLXLkUH9w&t=15s).
- For the purpose of this tutorial, click "ADD", click "New Question" and click "Multiple Choice"
- You will now be redirected to the question page:
- type the question in the question text box (red box int he image below).
- Type your choices in the answer text boxes (yellow box in the image below). Every time you type in anything along the question and answer text boxes, you will see a preview in the right side of the page.
- You will see a circle before each answer, click one of the circle to indicate that this item is the correct answer (green box in the image below, i have selected the first answer to be correct, thus it has the check mark).
- If you want to randomize each answer for the students, you may tick the small box (blue box in the image below).
- Assign the points for this item under "Points".
- If you are satisfied with your question, click "save"
- You have now created one item for your quiz. You will see the roster of quiz items in this page. You may repeat step 2 (clicking add or import in the same page below) and step 3.
- When you are satisfied with the number of items in your quiz, click Back to settings for [quiz title].
- You will be taken back to the quiz page and here, you will see the items and the total score of the quiz that you have created.
- Once satisfied, click "Save and Close". Congratulations! you have now created a quiz for your learners/clerks. You may now add this quiz to your content, similar to how you added assignments. But instead of clicking assignments, click quizzes. Note that the quiz will be available on the date and time you indicated.
EDITING QUESTIONS:
- Go to the quiz item you created, click "add/edit questions".
- Click the item you want to edit and you will be redirected to the question editorial page.
